We add a very small amount of palm oil to our Natural No Stir Peanut Butter because it’s naturally solid at room temperatures—it helps to keep peanut oil from separating from peanut solids, which means your peanut butter will stay thick and spreadable and ready to serve without stirring!
Arguments against palm oil primarily have to do to with concerns about environmental and human rights factors: historically, intensive palm oil cultivation has led to deforestation, pollution, and unfair labor practices. That’s why we only use RSPO-certified palm oil, which comes from sources that are environmentally friendly, sustainable, and protective of workers’ rights and safety all along the supply chain. You can read more about RSPO Certification here.
While adding a bit of palm oil to peanut butter makes it so you don’t HAVE to stir, our peanut butter is still a natural product. Some separation is totally normal, especially if the weather has been warm. You can either mix it back or pour it off, as you prefer!
Rest assured, our 100% Peanuts Peanut Butter isn’t going anywhere! It’s been (pardon the pun) our bread and (peanut) butter since 1898!
We recognize that lots of people are interested in making better choices for themselves and their families, and it’s a journey, not an all-or-nothing ultimatum. Lots of people want to decrease the amount of salt and sugar their families take in, but they don’t want to go to the trouble of stirring, or their kiddos would reject a peanut butter that has a drizzly texture, or don’t want a PB&J leaking in their lunch boxes. Some people have medical conditions or disabilities that make it difficult for them to stir a jar of thick PB, but they still want (and deserve!) better ingredients. Our Natural No-Stir Peanut Butter is perfect for all these cases and more!
We’re just adding some chairs to our table and inviting more folks to join our Crazy Richards family!
The “best by” date is just that, a BEST by date. It is not an expiration date – in fact, when properly sealed and stored, peanut butter can actually last for a long time. If your peanut butter were to be “expired” (meaning the natural peanut oil had gone rancid) you will most certainly know as soon as you open it up: when peanut oil is rancid, the smell is horrible and overpowering. If you open any jar of Crazy Richard’s peanut butter and you smell a delicious, peanut buttery flavor – then you can tell that the peanut butter is still good!
Natural peanut butter can be more difficult to stir when it’s been sitting unused for a long time and the oil has separated from the peanut solids. If it is difficult to stir, check out this article.
When in doubt, don’t throw it out! If you have a jar that’s past the best by date, check with your local food pantry—nut butters are in high demand and many local food pantries will accept products that are past the best by date but still good. Or use it to feed your local wildlife. Birds and squirrels also LOVE peanut butter! DIY Peanut Butter Bird Feeder
We know that sometimes the inner safety seal can be a little difficult to remove and we apologize if this is a frustrating experience. However, nut butter oil can cause the safety seal to break down and pop off before you get your jar home to your kitchen, which would be a much more frustrating experience! Since we would rather be safe than sloppy, we always make sure that our safety seals are nice and snug.
Pro Tip: Give your jar a good shake before you try to remove the seal.
YES! All of our jars are BPA free – always have been!
Mostly! All of our products naturally fit into one of the many dietary lifestyles of today. With the exception of our new Cinnamon Almond Butter (which has a little cane sugar and salt added) all of Crazy Richard’s nut butters are naturally sugar free, salt free, gluten free, vegan and non-GMO. Read more about specific diet inclusions HERE.
Crazy Richard’s nut butters can be stored in the fridge, but they certainly do not need to be. If you want perfectly drizzly nut butter, keep your jars in your pantry or on your kitchen counter for easy access. Even once open, if you keep the lid closed, your nut butter will stay good for a really long time. If you don’t open it for a few weeks, the oils will naturally separate and you will probably have to stir it up. If you like your nut butter thick, then store your jars in the fridge once they have been stirred; you will not need to stir your jars again!
Crazy Richard’s Protein Bars are meant to be taken on the go—they’re shelf-stable so they can be kept in a pantry or dropped in a pocket or bag to eat away from home. For maximum freshness, they can be stored in the fridge.
You can use a knife, a spatula, or even an electric hand mixer! One of our favorite tips is before you even open your nut butter – store the jar upside down to let the oils naturally work their way through to the bottom. When you’re ready to open it up, give it a shake first! If you’re a big nut butter fan, try emptying a few jars into a large stand mixer at the same time and give them a whirl – then pour your freshly mixed nut butters back into their original jars and you’ll be prepared when the hangry pains strike! Keep them in the fridge to prevent future separation. But remember, the separation is a NATURAL thing. Yay! This shows that Crazy Richard’s nut butters do not have added stabilizers so pat yourself on the back for going all-natural!

We are proud of the runny consistency of our 100% Peanuts and 100% Almonds butters and you can be too! Peanuts and almonds contain natural oils that will separate when they are ground, after the jars have been sealed and had some time to settle. When you see oil on the top of your Crazy Richard’s nut butter jar, you can stir it right back up. There are actually quite a few advantages to runny nut butter—it blends better in smoothies and sauces, and drizzles better onto yogurt and ice cream, to start—so even if you get a jar that’s more runny than the others, explore our recipe page for unique or creative ways to use your nut butter.
If you prefer thick and spreadable peanut butter without drizzle, check out our new No-Stir Peanut Butter!
CR Family Tip: If you want to minimize the drip, stick your nut butter jar in the refrigerator after you stir it up. That will keep the consistency nice and firm 😉

NO! None of the ingredients in our products are GMO. We do not use peanuts that are genetically modified. We are proud to say that we only source our peanuts from American peanut farms. And GMOs don’t even exist in peanuts grown in the United States! But even if they did, we wouldn’t dream of it. We think our peanuts are perfect just the way they are. Read more about it in this article provided by the National Peanut Board.
No. Our all-natural peanut butter is made from 100% US grown peanuts. No additives, fillers, salts or sugars! We currently only support American peanut farmers. Many of the organic peanuts we have found are grown in China and processed in Canada. We are proud to support American jobs, American agriculture, and American farmers.
However, we do test our peanut butter for glyphosate residues (glyphosates is the most common inorganic herbicide used in the US) on a regular basis and it’s certified Glyphosate Residue Free!

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting around 4-6 months of age “Early and Often” and The National Peanut Board has a slew of information about “Early Introduction” and lots of great ideas about the whats and hows of this groundbreaking new study.

The ratio is usually around 2 Tb peanut powder to 1 Tb of liquid of your choice, such as milk or water. HOWEVER – we know good peanut butter. And peanut powder mixed with water is not good PB. Peanut butter gets its strong flavor from the natural oil found in PB. When making peanut powder we remove a lot of the oil and therefore a lot of the flavor. So mixing that powder with water is going to give you a subpar peanut butter wannabe. If you want PB for a sandwich, we recommend getting Crazy Richard’s Creamy or Crunchy. It’s the best PB on the block, hands down. However, if you are looking to boost your protein or enhance a recipe – 100% Peanuts Peanut Powder is a winner! Literally, add a spoonful or two into your protein shake. If you want a stronger peanut flavor, add another scoop! It’s that easy.
Protein Shakes, Smoothie Bowls, Pancakes, Breads, Muffins, Yogurt Topping, Fruit Dip, Ice Cream topping, Popcorn topping, make a peanut sauce for your stir-fry or sushi rolls to dip in, use it in your breading for your chicken or bread crumbs! And don’t forget your babies and dogs. They LOVE peanut butter. Here are a few fun recipes to try:
We like to say it’s an old family secret. But in reality, we double grind our almonds to get rid of the grit and leave you with a silky smooth butter your tongue will thank you for.

In a way, yes! Our very own Richard once owned a business selling nuts and candy in addition to making Krema peanut butter, but in the 1980’s he decided he wanted to focus his efforts on promoting natural foods and sold the storefront and the nut/candy side of the business to some good friends of his who continue it today as the Krema Nut Company. Richard was ahead of his time promoting healthy, natural foods and proved to be a true visionary as the natural foods industry has since exploded. 50% of Americans now buy natural foods! Today many people only eat natural nut butters and we are thrilled to be both an original pioneer in the natural foods industry, and a visionary company as we grow and innovate, looking towards an even bigger future in natural foods!
