Benefits of Astaxanthin

Rachael DeVaux, RD

Astaxanthin, one ingredient found in Crazy Richard’s PB Burst and PurePB Plus, is an extremely powerful antioxidant and a member of the carotenoid family. As humans, we are not able to produce astaxanthin, therefore requiring us to get it through our diets. Most of our dietary intake of this antioxidant powerhouse is through seafood such as salmon, crab, lobsters, shrimp and trout. Astaxanthin is responsible for giving those animals their bright colors.

(Kidd, 2011)

Astaxanthin is found to:

  • Reduce oxidative stress and inflammation
  • Increase energy
  • Protect against oxidative DNA damage
  • Enhance the immune system
  • Improve endurance and exercise recovery
  • Support joint health
  • Protect against sagging skin and wrinkles
  • Improve vision

According to one study, supplementation of 4mg per day of astaxanthin significantly improved performance in the assessment designed to measure strength/endurance (maximum number of squats) over the placebo group in 40 healthy students aged 17 on 40 healthy students.

Astaxanthin is even found to be 6,000 times more potent than vitamin C, 550 times stronger than vitamin E and 800 times more powerful than CoQ10!

Crazy Richard’s signature Burst Blend is composed of this valuable antioxidant paired with decaffeinated green tea extract and B vitamins found in both PurePB Plus and PB Burst which make for a great nutrient-dense snack packing some serious health benefits.
